Poppies: taking part in the Project

Would you like to be part of Poppies, a project in the making?

The POPPIES blog is precisely for that.

Being part of the POPPIES project

As we said in ourHome page, POPPIES is a project in the making which aims to put in contact

English teachers who are preparing for the competitive exam anywhere in Spain- with or without experience in the sector
With teachers who have a permanent position in the Spanish Education System
and even with experienced English teachers who are outside the Education system :

Because we think that all the parts will benefit from the experience in different ways and POPPIES would like to contribute to it.

Expressing your concerns and sharing experiences

At the end of the school year I met with some teachers who have prepared the competitive exam with me at different times.

Some of them got a permanent post and we were talking about their experiences teaching in the so called “bilingual” and “mainstream” schools. The problems faced in the classrooms, the satisfaction of doing certain things and seeing results, etc. I invited them to share their experiences in the classrooms with the POPPIES blog readers so that we can all gain from them. I invite any other teacher who wishes to collaborate to contact me and see what we can include in the blog.
Others were interinos, and they told me about their experiences too. One of them had been working at the Ciudad Jaén High School and I invited her to tell us about her experiences there rather than me telling you second hand. I do remember having signed various petitions throughout the academic year to complain about the physical condition of the place and its facilities, the overcrowding, etc. I think if we can read about the real situation of schools, students, teachers, facilities, etc. we can try and work out ways of improving it. So, again, I invite you to contact me and tell me about your experiences as “interinos”.
But I would also like to extend this invitation to English teachers from Autonomous Regions other than Madrid to share their experiences and concerns, because if we really wish to improve the system and enrich ourselves as teachers we need to collaborate and exchange ideas and experiences.

Sharing your knowledge about the culture, education in general, EFL, etc.

Finally, I would like to invite any English teacher –or teaching any other subject– to share what they know about interesting “English corners” which, of course, can also be Scottish, Welsh, Irish, American, Canadian, Australian, … you name it. Or about EFL, education in their country or in general, applications they find of interest to use in the classes or to prepare materials, presentations, etc.

Contributions can be done either in English or in Spanish

Cómo ser parte del proyecto POPPIES

Tal y como dijimos en nuestra Página de Inicio, POPPIES es un proyecto en desarrollo que persigue poner en contacto a:

Profesores de inglés que preparan la oposición en cualquier parte de España, con o sin experiencia en el sector.
Con profesores con plaza en el sistema de educación español
E incluso con profesores de inglés con experiencia que no forman parte del sistema educativo:

Porque pensamos que todas las partes se van a beneficiar de forma diversa de esta experiencia y POPPIES quiere contribuir a que así sea.

Y poder expresar tus inquietudes y compartir experiencias

A finales del curso académico estuve con algunas de las profesoras que han preparado en distintos años la oposición conmigo.

Algunas tienen plaza y estuvimos hablando de sus experiencias dando clase tanto en institutos de los llamados “bilingüe” como de los normales. De los problemas a los que se enfrentan en las aulas, la satisfacción que se obtiene al hacer ciertas cosas y ver los resultados, etc. Las invité a compartir sus experiencias en el aula con los lectores del blog de POPPIES para que todos nos beneficiemos. Invito desde aquí a cualquier otro profesor que quiera colaborar a que se ponga en contacto conmigo para ver lo que podemos incluir en el blog.
Otras eran interinos y también me contaron sus experiencias. Una de ellas estuvo dando clase en el Instituto Ciudad Jaén y la he invitado a que nos cuente su experiencia en el instituto en lugar de ser yo la que la cuente de segunda mano. Recuerdo perfectamente haber firmado distintas peticiones durante el curso académico para protestar por las condiciones físicas del instituto y sus instalaciones, la masificación, etc. Creo que si podemos leer sobre la situación real de los centros educativos, los alumnos, los profesores, las instalaciones, etc. podremos buscar formas de mejorarlo. Por eso, os invito una vez más a que nos contéis vuestras experiencias como interinos.
Y también quiero extender la invitación a los profesores de inglés de otras comunidades autónomas aparte de la de Madrid para que compartan sus experiencias e inquietudes con nosotros, porque si realmente queremos mejorar el sistema y enriquecernos como profesores necesitamos colaborar e intercambiar ideas y experiencias.

Comparte lo que sabes sobre la cultura, la educación en general, EFL, etc.

Por último, me gustaría invitar también a cualquier profesor de inglés – o de cualquier otra asignatura- a compartir lo que saben sobre “rincones ingleses” interesantes que, por supuesto, pueden ser escoceses, galeses, irlandeses, americanos, canadienses, australianos…lo que se os ocurra. O sobre la enseñanza del inglés, la educación en su país o en general, aplicaciones que puedan ser de interés para las aulas o para preparar materiales o presentaciones, etc.
