TypeIt: The app Poppies uses for phonemic transcriptions

æəθʊɪɔʃðɫʒʌŋ….tʃ  dʒ ………….

Now I can write words like thumb [‘θʌm], chap [‘tʃæp] or judge [‘dʒʌdʒ] and provide their phonemic transcription without having to leave the screen I am using or having to spend time copying and pasting.

And what is best: you can get this application for just 10-12 euros, downdload it and insert it so that it becomes embedded in your keyboard. It’s great.

But there’s more: I wouldn’t probably be writing about TypeIt if I hadn’t had a problem with it. In fact I found out about TypeIt in January this year, when I was looking in the web for some solution to my problems: I needed to use phonemic transcriptions for the POPPIES A Foundation Course materials, but it was taking me such a long time that I was considering whether it was worth the time.

I can’t remember what I typed in exactly, but I soon found their website  and I was happy enough producing my transcription on their screen and then copying and pasting when I realised that they had the application: it was cheap and, according to what they were saying, easy to install and use. So I paid for it, downloaded and installed it in my computer and set about to use it. Nice and easy.

But then, in February and part of March I was busy organising other materials and forgot about it. Until last week, when I needed to produce some documents which required phonemic transcription…and I just could not do it. So I got in touch with the company, not really thinking they would reply.

I was wrong… Not only did Tomazs, the owner and developer of TypeIt, reply promptly but he kept e-mailing until my problem was solved…

And thank you TYpeIt!
